R. Howard Wright

R. Howard Wright, 98, of Clarks Hill, passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2012 in Mulberry Health & Retirement Home.

Howard was born on December 27, 1913 in Clarks Hill to Fred T. and Rozella (Loveless) Wright.

He graduated from Clarks Hill High School in 1931.

On August 31, 1935, he married Juanita Williams of Colfax in Frankfort. She preceded him in death on February 3, 2007 after 71 years of marriage.

Howard worked on a cream route with his father and brothers until starting work for ALCOA in 1941. He worked as a power straightener for the Extrusion Department until his retirement in 1976. Howard was also a member of the Clarks Hill Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a member of Clarks Hill Christian Church where he served as Deacon and Treasurer. He was a member and Past Master of Miller Lodge which merged with Tippecanoe Lodge 492, a member of Scottish Rite 32nd Degree, and a member of ALCOA Retirees Club and ALCOA 25 year club. Howard was a great father and a wealth of information on local history. He was also known for his great sense of humor!! He was a long time Chicago Cubs fan. We’ll get em’ next year Daddy!! His hobbies included restoring a 1930 Model A Ford with his son-in-law, Ted Harper. Howard and Juanita drove it to their 50th anniversary party.

Howard is survived by his daughters, Elaine Harper of Indianapolis and Elise Thoennes (husband: David) of Lafayette; his sons, Roger Wright (wife: Remona) of Sheridan, Raymond Wright (wife: Kandy) of Indianapolis, and Jim Wright of Clarks Hill. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Col. (Retired) Ralph I. Williams of Florida.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ree, and brothers, Roy and Rulo.

Funeral Information

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 16th from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Clarks Hill Christian Church. Services will be at 12:30 p.m. at Clarks Hill Christian Church with Pastor Steven Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Clarks Hill.

Donations Information

Memorial contributions may be made to the Clarks Hill Christian Church in loving memory of Howard. Envelopes will be available at the church.
