William A. Black Sr.

December 22, 1937 - April 21, 2017

William Allen Black Sr., 79, Logansport, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017, in his home.

Born December 22, 1937, in Logansport, he was the son of the late James G. Sr. and Anna Lucy (Gaby) Black.

On February 12, 1958, in the Salvation Army, he was married to Rega “Joyce” (Good) Black, who survives.

Bill served his country in the U.S. Army Indiana National Guard.  He retired from Logansport Municipal Utilities where he had worked as a linesman and heavy equipment operator for twenty-eight years.

A member of the Salvation Army, Bill had taught Sunday School for many years.  He was a devoted Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears fan and he loved the Chicago Cubs.  When he was younger, he enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, providing his kids with go-karts and mini-bikes and the lawnmower races at the Twelve Mile 500.  He wore the title of “Grandpa” very proudly – he loved his grandchildren.

Surviving with his wife of 59 years are seven children: William “Bill” (Paige) Black, Jr. of Logansport, Rita (Mike) Davis of Russiaville, James “Jim” (Mary) Black of Delphi, Mark Black of Logansport, Tammy (Bradly) Manning of Logansport, Bobbie Sue Black of Monticello and Nicholas “Nick” (Dianna) Black of Martinez, Georgia; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Glen Black Jr. and Charles Robert Black; and one sister, Frances Shackelford.
