Margaret M. Uerkwitz

Margaret M. Uerkwitz, 89, of Lafayette, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 in St. Mary's Healthcare.
She was born on December 28, 1922 to the late Paul and Velma (Rogers) Miller. Margaret lived in Lafayette all her life attending the public schools and graduating from Jefferson High School.
On March 19, 1955, she married Maurice Ray Uerkwitz in Lafayette and he survives.
Margaret was a member of First United Methodist Church in West Lafayette.
She operated the Jack and Jill Nursery School for 25 years, retiring in 1983. Upon retiring, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, driving for Meals on Wheels, and serving as a Pink Lady at Home Hospital.
Surviving with her husband are her sons, Tom Friend (wife: Helen) of Pelican Rapids, MN, and Jim Uerkwitz (wife: Maggie) of Lafayette; a brother, Jim Miller of San Antonio, TX; a sister, Vivian "Dolly" Dawson of Peoria, IL; and daughter-in-law, Peggy Friend of California. Most of all Margaret enjoyed being a grandmother to her 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Clarence Friend, on April 21, 2011.
Funeral Information
Private family services will be held at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
