John Marvin Rutledge
July 19, 1930 - February 18, 2010
John Marvin Rutledge, 79, Mulberry, formerly of Lafayette, died at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010, in the Mulberry Health Retirement Center.
Born July 19, 1930, in Rockville, Indiana, he was the son of Peter Mennick and Ethel Mae (White) Rutledge. On Dec. 26, 1955, in Rockville, he was married to Phyllis (Martin) Rutledge, who survives.
John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was the recipient of the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon with 6 Bronze Service Stars, The Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and the Good Conduct Medal.
In 1960, John received his Bachelors of Science degree from Purdue University. He retired in 1994 from INDOT, where he had worked for 33 years as a civil engineer.
John was a member of the American Legion Argonne Post 180 of Great Bend, Kansas, the 1st Calvary Division Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled Veterans of America, and the Marshall High School Alumni Association. His involvement as a member of the Korean War Veterans was very important to him. He had served as editor of their newsletter and also as commander of the Lafayette chapter.
Time spent with his family was his priority and something he enjoyed very much.
Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Holly (Mike) Hanley, of Lafayette; one son, Robin (Laura) Rutledge, of Frederick, MD; and one grandson, Tyler Rutledge, of Frederick, MD.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Jean Rutledge Johnson.
Funeral Information
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2010, in Fisher-Loy Funeral Chapel, Lafayette.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2010, in Fisher-Loy Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dan Young officiating.
Burial will follow in Tippecanoe Memorial Gardens.
