Obituary for Charles Robert "Charlie" Remley

Charles Robert "Charlie" Remley, 84, of Walton, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Sunday, July 8, 2018, in the Wellington.at Kokomo.

Born September 22, 1933, in Lucerne, he was the son of the late Edgar and Mildred (Winn) Remley.

Charlie was a 1951 graduate of Lucerne High School. He excelled in hardball, softball and basketball on Cass County teams. He was proud to be a veteran of the U.S. Army,
serving during Peacetime.

As a member of Rural Youth, Charlie met the love of his life, Marlene Lou (Sailors) Remley. The couple were married On October 23, 1955.

Charles was retired from GTE after 34 years of service. He had previously worked for RBM.

An active member in his community, Charlie wore Badge No. 31, denoting his longtime service to the Walton Volunteer Fire Department. He was past president of the Cass County Parks and Recreation Department and the Walton IOOF Cemetery Board. Charlie was also well-known as a square dance caller.

Charles was a member of the Shiloh Lutheran Church in Walton. He was a 59-year member of the Walton Masonic Lodge. Charles also held membership in the Murat Shrine and Scottish Rite, both of Indianapolis, the Logansport Shrine Club and the Elks Lodge No. 66.


Surviving with his wife are his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Kathy Remley of Divide, CO; four grandchildren; Kasey (Josh) Reyling, Darby Remley and Devin (Becky) Remley, all of Fort Collins, CO, and Jordan (Danielle) Remley, Colorado Springs, CO; four great-grandchildren, Perry and Lucy Reyling, June Remley, and Layla Remley and another great-grandson on the way; two sisters-in-law, Lois Remley and Kay (Sailors) Harvey who was raised in their home like a daughter; and several nieces and nephews. He was also nicknamed "Gab" by many friends and family.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Remley, and two sisters, Frances Zagajewski and Betty (Ralph) Wilson.

A Funeral Service celebrating the life of Charles Remley will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 12 in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Sharon Walker officiating.

Burial, with full military honors, will be held at the Walton IOOF Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral chapel where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service on Thursday in the chapel. .
