Obituary for Frank E. Helterbran

Frank E. Helterbran, 97, of Lafayette, passed away on January 26, 2018 in St. Anthony Nursing Center.

He was born on October 26, 1920 in Freeland Park, Indiana to the late Everett and Carrie (Moisher) Helterbran.

Frank graduated from Earl Park High School in 1939.

He served his country in the Unites States Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. Frank was a Staff Sergeant with Battery C, 25th Field Artillery Battalion where he served in Central Europe earning the EAME with 3 bronze stars.

On January 13, 1946, he married Opal M. Winkler in Wolcott, Indiana. She preceded him in death on August 14, 2007.

Frank worked for Purdue University as a Veterinarian Research Administrator for Purdue University in the Small and Large Animal Clinic for 20 years. He also farmed in Brookston for 16 1/2 years.

Frank attended Evergreen Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed spending his free time mowing yards, helping others, and being a care giver to many.

Surviving are his sons, Terry Lynn (Sandy) Helterbran of Lafayette and Edward Helterbran of Lafayette. Also surviving are grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal; his son, Roger Helterbran; and his sisters, Helen Odam and Frances Burill.

Services will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Chapel (1718 West 350 North, West Lafayette, IN). Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the donor's charity of choice in loving memory of Frank.
