Obituary for Karen Margaret Poland

Karen Margaret Poland, 75, Logansport, passed away at 3:20 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018, in Woodbridge Health Campus.

Born October 1, 1942, in Logansport, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Eva Wolf Giffin.

On January 19, 1959, in Lake Cicott, Karen was married to James Thomas Poland, who preceded her in death December 14, 2010.

Karen began her career at Memorial Hospital in 1964. In 2004, she retired as a medical ward secretary. She touched many lives during her 40 years at the hospital. Quite often, she would meet someone who remembered her loving kindness and compassionate care – not to mention that she gave the best backrubs. Five years ago, she moved to Woodbridge where she made fast friends and her kindness shined through as she ministered to her fellow residents.

Karen was a longtime member of Pisgah Christian Church where she was active in the Missionary Society. She loved gardening. Karen enjoyed flower arranging and brightening someone’s day with the beauty of flowers.

She is survived by four daughters: Deb (Joseph) Winkle, Big Rock, Illinois, Brenda (Kevin) Ward, Becky (Bruce) Cosgray, and Michelle (Jay) Zimmerman, all of Logansport; her beloved grandchildren: Heather (Rob) Brenart, Stephanie Cree, Luke Winkle, David Winkle, Alycia Winegardner, Payton Cosgray, Thomas Cosgray, Jessica Roberts (Steven Roberts- Lorenzo), William Urick II and Brice Urick; and she adored her great-grandchildren: Matthew and Benjamin Brenart, Jacob Gebhardt, Emily, Lillian and Annabelle Roberts.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Dru Cosgray.

A funeral service celebrating Karen’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ryan Lewellen officiating.

Burial will follow in Pisgah Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, May 31, in the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pisgah Christian Church.
