Obituary for Martha Elizabeth Cromer

Martha Elizabeth Cromer, 95, of West Lafayette, passed away Monday, September 3, 2018, in Westminster Village.

Born January 15, 1923, in Lafayette, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Sayford Cromer and Hortense (Miller) Cromer.

Martha was a 1942 graduate of West Lafayette High School and had attended Stevens College in Missouri as well as Purdue University. She was retired from Haywood Printing where she had worked for 22 years. She was a devoted caregiver to both her parents for as long as they lived, which enabled them to remain comfortably in their home.

A member of the Trinity U.M. Church, Martha was active in the UMC Women's Circle 4. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Martha also belonged to Beta Sigma Phi, the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Business & Professional Women's Club.

Westminster Village was her residence for 25 years, and she enjoyed attending their enrichment and entertainment activities, calling Bingo for the other residents and helping with Vespers at Westminster's chapel. Travel was a lifelong passion, and she took tours throughout the United States and abroad, to Germany, Austria, and the birthplace of her maternal grandfather, Switzerland.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Ann Cromer Parks. Martha is survived by her nieces Katy (Paul) Kasriel of Wisconsin and Ellen Parks of New York, her grand-niece Marisa (Dan) Roubik and her grand-nephew Matt Kasriel, two great-grand nephews and a great-grand niece.

A graveside service will be held at Grandview Cemetery, West Lafayette, in the Spring of 2019.

Memorial contributions may be made in Martha's memory to the American Heart Association.

Deep love and gratitude go to Martha's longtime Care Manager, Donna Granger, and her husband Harvie Granger, and to Martha's dedicated helper, Teresa Isley. We also want to thank Guardian Angel Hospice, and members of the Westminster nursing staff who gave Martha compassionate care at the end of her life.
