Obituary for Gail Kaufman

Gail Kaufman, 72, Fishers, formerly of Logansport, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018, at the Allisonville Meadows in Fishers, Indiana.

Born January 6, 1946, in Logansport, she was the daughter of the late Gayle Eugene and Winifred Elizabeth (Skelton) Smith.

On March 4, 1965, in Logansport, she was married to Alan Wayne Kaufman, who survives at Allsionville Meadows.

A 1964 graduate of Logansport High School, Gail earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. A very compassionate nurse known throughout the community, Gail was a long-tenured registered nurse at Logansport Memorial Hospital. She had also worked at White County Memorial, Chase Center and as a home health care nurse. Professionally, she was a member of the Florence Nightingale Club and the Mary Dykeman Guild.

Gail was a member of the Cross~Wind United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Royal Center Order of Eastern Star. Gail also enjoyed the times she met for lunch with her LHS Class of ’64 friends. She loved reading, traveling and bird-watching, especially her favorite birds, the cardinals. Gail’s smile was contagious and she could instantly put you at ease but her very best smiles were reserved for her family…especially her “grands and great-grands.”

Surviving with her husband, Alan, of 53 years, are four children: Jennifer (Mark) Severson, Nerstrand, Minnesota, Ruth (David) Kain, Noblesville, Sarah Kaufman, Southington, Connecticut, and Gene Kaufman, of Logansport; two brothers, Joe (Carolyn) Smith, Greentown and John (Patty) Smith, Logansport; eight grandchildren: Andrew (Samantha) Murrell, Aldon ( Brittany) Severson, Felicia (Lincoln) Lawrence, Jordan Kain, Richard Kain (Sarah), Samantha Kain, Perry Sharp and Devinne Sharp; four great-grandchildren: Peyton and Avery Lawrence and Vivian and Malachi Worthington.

She was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Braylon JaKobe Lawrence; and one sister, Susan Hayes.

A Nurse’s Honor Guard Service followed by a Funeral Service celebrating Gail’s life will held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23 in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Peter Bosworth officiating.

Burial will follow in Idaville Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 22 in the funeral chapel where an Eastern Star service will be conducted at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
